I'm...not sure how to respond to those accusations.

However, there is a limit of 50 words to your request to ArenaNet. That's a bit restricting.

Of course, it's ironic that the age requirement will eliminate about half the entries.

Curse you America and your silly silly drinking age. I just turned 19 and if this was held somewhere with a sensible age limit I would have entered.

Anyone know how much a flight from Australia to Seattle would cost... seems we haven't found map travel yet.

If you have 2 charr warriors + Prince Rurik x 4 Adventures, how many hours would you have to grind before getting a black dye drop?

wtf.

Heya,

First, I wish that we could pay for transportation, but honestly, that would be really spendy. So yes, this contest is aimed towards those who are able to travel, or more particularly those who are local. I'm really sorry. I hope that all who attend will write stories and generally share the wonder of the night with you.

Secondly, that "Canadian bit." Well, it seems that a certain province in Canada has a restriction that people cannot win on the basis of a submitted and judged entry. Or maybe they can and the attorney who reviewed this contest--yep, lawyer reviewed and attorney approved!--didn't realize this wasn't a random drawing. Anyway, we'll do a math question if someone from that province enters, and if they win. (It's rather far away, so it's not real likely that there will be that many who enter from there.)

Lastly, age limitations. I know it sucks. You know it sucks. I know that a positively huge number of the most passionate players of our game are not 21+. (I've told the story of my best gaming partner in WarCraft III being just 13 or 14 when we were blazing a trail in 4 v 4. He'd not even be able to attend this party yet!) Anyway, I wish more than anything that we could include sub-21's, but again it's sort of a legal thing and I am sorry. No disrespect intended, I promise!

It's going to be a nice party. I hope that we'll have a ton of entries and I'll try to sneak more in the ba... I mean I'll be sure to keep it to 12. Aye, right!

Hey, I just noticed that I didn't write that each winner could bring a guest! Ok, I'm going to see if the Web Team can make a change -- that will make it a lot more fun, if everyone knows he/she can bring a guest/friend/significant other along!

Soooooo.... Am I going to see any Guruites there?

Aw, heck!

Hey, if I had it my way, we'd do a Guild Wars road trip and make, say, a dozen stops around the country, visiting with fans, listening to their ideas, answering questions, playing a few matches or missions...

Anyway, maybe Michigan someday!

If you move it to Australia, I'll be there... but since that's unlikely, just have a drink for me (real reason for the 21 age cap isn't it )

Actually the problem with this is that I occassionally travel for business. I also imagine that I'm not the only one.
Hypothetically if I were going to be in Seattle I still couldn't enter because I'm not a citizen... Also what about those on holidays? Those who are going to be close but technically aren't residents or citizens. They may be small numbers compared to the rest of the gaming population, but most people away on business are either given a few days to do whatever, or take annual leave to do whatever. It's kind of disappointing that the entries are so restricted in that manner. Proof of ability to attend would be much better. Or does the US have laws which state that these sorts of contests cannot be won by anyone outside of North America?

The only reason I am mentioning this is because I am sheduled to visit LA in January, and it crossed my mind that I'm far from the only one who travels inter-state, across the Pacific, even to Europe, for conferences and meetings. GW does have a huge adult player base.

Hmmmm... you ask a good question. Obviously it's a legal thing, but I cannot really answer why it's that way. I know with other contests, like the Guild Emblem Contest, we'd LOVE for it to be truly "every country in the world," but each country can have specific laws and rules, and we don't have the resources, time, or even connections to have our contest rules reviewed in 100-200 countries. So we limit the entries to those countries in which we have legal representation, which I think is a real shame, but which I am told is necessary in a legal sense.

I guess that's why this is limited. We don't know if someone in Belize, Belgium, or Barbados is eligible to receive the party ticket, if he/she would need to pay taxes on the value of the beverages and food, etc. I know it sounds silly, but I am speculating that this is the reason for the regional boundaries of this contest. I have to tell you, if someone were able to afford to travel to attend from outside the region, and they were a winner, I'd try very hard to get them clearance to come to the event!

Yes, I hate living in Quebec.

Basically you have to merit the win. You can't just enter a slip of paper an voila.

In all the judge Contests I have entered You did not need to answer a Mathimatical question, seeing as you can win on merit.

So lotteries need a Math question Answered, Art Gallery Contest, not.

Oh and the hardest question I have seen is basically:

4 x ((15x2) - 20) / 2 = ?

Seriously, it isn't.

I'm not entering because I have nothing else to do around there (that and money), if it was say, In or around Orange County, I could have dropped in on a Firend for a couple of days.

So, In the intrest of anybody else, don't make it hard... The people here arn't... wise. And those that are, are not entering the conest.
